Governor of Bengal v. Govt., on the removal of a top police officer of Calcutta

Sources told India Today TV that the West Bengal Governor has opened another front against the Trinamool Congress-led state government by demanding the removal of the Kolkata Police Commissioner. However, the Mamata Banerjee-led government is not ready to accept the governor's demands, party sources said.

In a letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor Bose demanded the removal of Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal, sources said. According to the Governor, the Kolkata Police built an office-like control room near the Raj Bhavan for which they did not take any permission from the Governor's office.

The governor suspects that the state government is monitoring the Raj Bhavan. Notably, another former Governor of Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankar, who is now the Vice President of India, made a similar allegation.

However, sources said the Trinamool Congress government believes it is a regular state police office as it has been for previous governors as well.

Sources said that according to the state government, the police office is for the protection of the governor.

Governor Bose and the state government have been at odds on several issues. Recently, newly elected MLAs Sayantika Banerjee and Rait Hussain Sarkar staged a sit-in in the West Bengal Assembly premises, demanding that Governor Bose enable them to take oath inside the Assembly and not at the Raj Bhavan.

Governor Bose also filed a defamation case against Mamata Banerjee after the latter alleged that women did not feel safe inside the Raj Bhavan.

The chief minister's statement came after a woman contract employee of the Raj Bhavan filed a complaint with the Kolkata police, alleging that Governor Bose molested her at her home on April 24 and May. was
