Ahmedabad: Seven cholera cases have been confirmed in Gujarat's Jamnagar, following which local authorities have declared several areas of the city as cholera-affected zones and banned the sale of food and water, officials aware of the matter said.
District Magistrate BK Pandya imposed restrictions under the Epidemic Diseases Act on Thursday to implement immediate control measures following a proposal from the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation commissioner.
The decision was taken after cholera cases were reported in health centres at Bedibandar, Ghanchivad and Wambe.
The affected areas include Dharmanagar-2, Khojwad Lalkhan and Ravipark, Bedibandar Ring Road. These places, where cholera-positive cases were reported, have been declared cholera-affected areas. A two-kilometre radius around these areas has been classified as cholera-prone areas.
“Three patients were admitted to the hospital and were discharged after treatment. No deaths have been reported so far,” an official said.
To control the situation, the Deputy Commissioner of Jamnagar Municipal Corporation has been appointed as the Cholera Control Officer and has been given all the necessary powers to implement control measures and prevent further spread of the disease, officials said.
According to a statement, local health officials are working to contain the outbreak and provide necessary medical care to those affected.
A day earlier, a cholera case was reported in Rajkot, about 150 km from Jamnagar.
