Gurgaon: Residents of Towers G and H of Chantal’s Paradiso have been told to vacate the premises within 15 days or face legal action if they fail to comply. The order was issued under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 and the Criminal Code, 1973.

IIT-Delhi had released a report four months ago stating that the towers of the Sector 109 residential project were uninhabitable after a thorough structural inspection due to corrosion of steel. According to the assessment, the concrete of Towers G and H contained significant amounts of chloride, which caused the steel bars to corrode and made the structure unsafe.

The towers have a total of 104 units, and now house 16 families. In addition to these, D, E, and F, three other towers have been abandoned since they were first discovered.

DC Yadav has appointed District Town Planner (Enforcement) Manish Yadav as the nodal officer to implement the order. “Legal action will be taken under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act against those who violate the order,” he said in his order.

“The towers are unsafe and it is very important to vacate them as soon as possible. But some residents are not cooperating with the authorities. Now, a new order has been issued under the Disaster Management Act,” said DTP Yadav. . The enforcement unit of the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) had already written letters to the developer and the RWA requesting the house owners to leave Towers G and H vacant.

According to a spokesperson for the developer, corporate staff are asking apartment owners to leave their homes to be safe. “We have offered them compensation and many families have accepted the token money,” he said.

On February 10 last year, two residents died when the living rooms of five apartments in Tower D collapsed vertically. After which the district administration announced a structural review of each project tower.
