Our teams were deployed in 40 low-lying areas like Sector 15 Part 1, Basai, Khandsa, Sector 4, Sector 7, Railway Station, Old Railway Road, and New Railway Road to remove water from residential and high traffic areas. could The teams were supervised by senior officials, and all the pumps were checked on Tuesday to ensure there were no technical faults. Our teams were active and ensured that no one was stranded for more than 10 minutes due to waterlogging,” said MCG Commissioner Narhari Singh Bangar.

Virender Vij, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said traffic congestion was reported from three stretches – Narsingpur stretch of NH 48, industrial area site in Sector 38, and Tekri intersection on Sohna Road. “Our teams were deployed at all important locations and agencies were assisted in draining water. All teams were active at road intersections and ensured that there was no traffic congestion during the evening hours.”

Residents, however, said the preparations were mere spectacles, and blamed blocked drains for flooding.

Chitali Mandhotra, a member of the Ardi City Regents Welfare Association (RWA), said, “It was not just rainwater that flooded our neighborhood today but rainwater mixed with overflowing sewers. And the drains have not been cleaned for the past six years. The MCG contractor had started work last August when there was a written order to stop work with immediate effect and resume next monsoon, but that day never came.”

Sunil Sarin, deputy convenor of Dwarka Expressway Gurugram Development Association (DXP-GDA) and former RWA president of Emaar Imperial Gardens Society, said that with the onset of monsoon, people struggle through waterlogged roads to reach their workplaces. are doing, home, airport, railway station, and hospital in their cars — since there is no public transport in the city. He said that we are suffering due to bad, poor and inefficient drainage system in the city.

Ashwini Dogal, a resident of South City 1, said, “Several areas in our neighborhood are inundated after half an hour of rain. As per our knowledge, most of the storm drains in our area have not been cleaned for more than three years. Residents' complaints on WhatsApp and X have not fallen on deaf ears.

Navdeep Singh, a resident of Vatika India Next in Sector 82, said, “In our area, the storm water drain is not connected to the main line due to which commuters are stuck on a waterlogged road every day. Today, a school bus takes an hour. Stuck on the road every year but nothing is done to fix it. Is this the real Smart City Gurugram?

Sector 45 RWA general secretary, Puneet Pahwa, said that large potholes on 18m and 12m roads make it difficult for two-wheeler riders to pass, who are injured due to hidden potholes.

Meanwhile, the district administration says they are well prepared for the rainy season, and the situation has improved significantly compared to previous years. “The underpasses and major intersections that were inundated last year and brought traffic to a standstill are not facing any problem this time,” an official said. Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said, “Proactive measures and better coordination between various civic bodies have effectively mitigated the impact of heavy rains, ensuring better flow of traffic and across the city. Water logging problems have reduced.” Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav said.
