Investigators said the victim was thrown to the side of the expressway, while the rider lost balance and fell onto the main lane.
A man was killed and his companion injured after being hit by a speeding truck near the gate of a private university at Sudharwali on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway. The accident took place around 6.30 pm on Saturday, police said, adding that the two were returning home on a motorcycle.
The deceased has been identified as Ved Prakash Singh, a resident of Rewari, while his injured friend is Manish Kumar Jangad, who hails from Sikar in Rajasthan. According to the police, Singh and Jungeed worked in a furniture design and manufacturing firm located in Gowal Pahari at DLF Phase I. He was going to Rewari on a motorcycle when the accident took place.
Police reported that Singh was riding the motorcycle, and Jangid was riding behind. A speeding truck tried to overtake them and hit the bike. Investigators said Jangid was thrown on the side of the expressway (NH-48), while Singh lost balance and fell onto the main lane, where he collided with a truck. Despite his minor injuries, Jungeed managed to carry Singh to the side of the road with the help of other passengers who had gathered to help, he added.
Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Sandeep Kumar said that both the victims were rushed to Rewari Civil Hospital with the help of passengers and police. “Jangeed escaped with multiple injuries, but doctors declared Singh dead on arrival. The driver fled the scene with the truck, but Jungeed had noted down part of the truck's registration, which led us to the identity of the owner and the driver. Detection is helping,” said Kumar.
On Jangid's complaint, the unidentified truck driver was booked under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 125 (A) (causing hurt by act endangering the life or personal safety of another) and 281 (speeding or driving a vehicle). An FIR was registered under Bharatiya Naya Sanhita Public Way at Bilaspur Police Station on Sunday.
