Violence erupted in Haldwani on Thursday after the district administration demolished an “illegally constructed” madrassa. According to the police, the madrassa, built illegally on government land, was given notice earlier, however, this incited mobs who attacked officials to stop the demolition. The rioters pelted stones outside Banbholpura police station and set vehicles on fire.
