Health Department to identify hotspots battling dengue fever outbreak in Kozhikode

After successfully containing the third incident of Nipah outbreak this month, the health department in Kozhikode district is grappling with a surge in dengue fever cases in recent times.

According to official sources, most of the cases are from Kozhikode corporation limits. Two confirmed and 18 suspected cases were reported in government hospitals or health centers in the district on 25 September and four suspected cases on 24 September. A total of 38 cases were reported between September 20 and September 23. An increase in the number of such patients is being seen in private hospitals also. Within a year there was also one death due to dengue.

District Medical Officer KK Rajaram told hindu It was said on Monday that intermittent rains and subsequent breeding of mosquitoes were one of the reasons for the situation. He said that so far this month, 249 cases of dengue fever have been reported in the district. Since January till now, 1185 people have sought treatment. Dr. Rajaram said that ‘Dry Day’ is being celebrated to eliminate mosquitoes. Schools will follow it on Friday, offices on Saturday and homes on Sunday. This campaign will continue for the next six-seven weeks.

According to the World Health Organization, dengue is a viral infection caused by dengue virus, which is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected person. aedes aegypti Mosquitoes. Its symptoms are high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, pain in muscles and joints, nausea, vomiting, swollen glands and body rashes.

In a note published on September 22, the health minister’s office had said that the department had taken containment measures in view of the prediction that cases in the state could rise like in 2013 and 2017. The department is now making efforts. Identify ‘dengue hotspots’ in the districts. If more than five consecutive cases are reported from an area, it can be designated as a hotspot. Both district and local level health workers will be given details about such areas to take preventive measures.
