While parts of Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh will experience heatwave conditions till May 25, Maharashtra is forecast to experience similar conditions till May 24.

According to official data, more than 24 places in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh recorded maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius and above on May 22.

The IMD has predicted that Delhi will witness clear skies with heatwave conditions at some places on Thursday. While strong surface winds, with a speed of 25-35 kmph, may prevail at times during the day, the capital is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 44 degrees Celsius.

With air conditioners, coolers and refrigerators running at full capacity in homes and offices, electricity demand in Delhi reached an all-time high of 8,000 MW. The water level of the Yamuna River dropped significantly during the extreme heat, causing water shortages and supply disruptions in many areas of the capital.

Gujarat witnessed heatwave conditions as maximum temperatures were recorded at 45.2 and 45.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday.
