Traffic jams were reported from across Delhi on Tuesday as shoppers thronged markets to celebrate Dhanteras.
Several passengers took to social media platform X to share their ordeal. He reported heavy traffic at several places including Badarpur Flyover, CV Raman Marg, Punjabi Bagh, Badarpur Mehroli Road, Timur Nagar-Maharani Bagh Road, Ashram and Yamuna Vihar.
Sunil Yadav, a legal advisor at a private firm, wrote, “Traffic from Burhapullah flyover towards Sarai Kale Khan was heavy. Vehicles were crawling on the road at that particular stretch.”
Vivek Singh, another commuter, said that the traffic between Madhuban Chowk and Rohini East Metro Station is heavy.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police said they have made elaborate arrangements for smooth flow of traffic.
“We have deployed personnel on motorcycles to check encroachments on busy roads that may cause traffic congestion in the area. People coming to the markets have also been informed to park their vehicles at the designated spot. Park,'' said the officer.
“Officials have installed loudspeakers on their bikes to smooth the flow of traffic. Unauthorized vehicles are not being allowed to enter the national capital. A continuous campaign against encroachment at crowded places is also underway. is.” .
Delhi markets are thronged with shoppers.
A large number of people were seen shopping in the markets on the occasion of Dhanteras and Diwali festivals. Due to which security has been increased in the markets.
“In Saddar Bazar, barricading has been done at every gate, which has helped reduce traffic congestion. Additionally, FRS (Facial Recognition System) is also being used here, allowing entry into the area. It will help in identifying any criminal suspects and alerting the police,” said Rakesh Yadav, President of Sadar Bazar Traders Association.
Similarly, security has been increased in Sarojini Nagar and Khan Market.
Khan Market Traders Association President Sanjeev Mehra said, “Until Monday, the traffic situation in Khan Market was under control, but on Tuesday, police personnel unexpectedly cordoned off the entire area, creating a festive atmosphere. I'm interrupted.”
Ahead of the festive season, Delhi Metro has also said it will introduce an additional 60 trips on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to enhance passenger convenience and reduce congestion.
