Sony has confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn will be the next in its series of remasters, officially unveiling the project at State of Play today. Its release date is October 31st.
The new project will include 10 hours of re-recorded dialogue as well as other visual enhancements. Those who already own the PS4 version will be able to upgrade for $9.99.
While this is the studio's first official project, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was accidentally confirmed last week via an ESRB rating. However, the remaster has been much talked about for some time before this, with reports of it coming into existence as late as 2022.
These rumors gained momentum after Sony removed Horizon Zero Dawn from PS Plus in May. Sony has not officially commented on the rumors, but a 2022 report from VGC states that the remaster includes improved visuals to bring it on par with its sequel Horizon Forbidden West, as well as accessibility features, graphics modes, and quality-of-life improvements to the gameplay.
Still, many have questioned whether Guerrilla's beloved game still needs a remaster, especially when it's already playable in 4k at 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 following a 2021 update. It's said to be one of the best-selling PlayStation games of all time, with over 24 million units sold since launch, so it has plenty of fans.
Horizon Zero Dawn was initially released for the PlayStation 4 in 2017, followed by a release on PC in 2020. IGN gave the original Horizon Zero Dawn a 9.3/10, writing that it “presents us with a beautiful world filled with unforgettable challenges.”
