About Rs 55 lakh in cash, diamonds, platinum and gold jewelery worth around Rs 2.5 crore, a senior police officer said.
A case has been registered against three persons who absconded with cash and jewellery. ₹3 crore from a businessman's bungalow in Sector 4, police said on Sunday.
According to the police, the theft came to light when the businessman's wife woke up on Friday and found all the lockers and cupboards in the house broken and valuables missing. Police said that Naresh Kumar Aggarwal works in Delhi-NCR manufacturing and supplying plywood boards.
The accused include his housekeeper and two of his associates. At the time of the incident on Thursday, the woman — suffering from cancer — was at home with a domestic help while the rest of the family had gone to Jaipur to attend a wedding. The domestic help, who hails from Nepal and is the prime suspect in the case, was hired to take care of the patient just two weeks ago. Taking advantage of the situation, he mixed sedatives in the woman's food and rendered her unconscious. Police said there was no police clearance before he was hired.
A senior police officer said about this ₹55 lakhs in cash, diamond, platinum and gold jewelery worth approx. ₹Two and a half crore rupees and other valuables were stolen from lockers and cupboards. The thieves then stuffed the stolen valuables into four bags before fleeing the scene.
“CCTV footage shows the accused entering and exiting the premises after the theft. It is strongly suspected that he crossed the international border into Nepal via Uttar Pradesh or Bihar to avoid arrest. may try to enter,” the police officer said, adding that teams have been pressed into action and the counterparts in both states are being contacted. Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Sandeep Kumar said that the investigation is on and they are trying to recover the stolen material.
An FIR has been registered under the relevant BNS section of theft at Sector 9A police station on Sunday.
