Hyderabad:

A 33-year-old woman died and 20 others suffered food poisoning after eating momos offered by a street vendor at various locations in Hyderabad's Banjara Hills area, police said.

Reshma Begum and her daughters, aged 12 and 14, used to eat momos from a street vendor on Fridays in Khairatabad. Soon after, he developed diarrhea, abdominal pain and vomiting. She died on Sunday morning and her daughters are undergoing treatment. Reshma Begum was a single mother and is survived by daughters.

Sub-inspector Ram Babu of Banjara Hills police station told news agency PTI, “We received a complaint yesterday that Reshma Begum (33) died and 15 others were killed by the same shopkeeper's memo (street) at different places. food) suffered from food poisoning. We have registered a case and are investigating the matter.”

Investigations revealed that the vendor was operating without a food safety license and food was being prepared in unsanitary conditions. The dough used to prepare the momos was kept in the refrigerator without any packaging, the probe found. It was also found that the fridge door was broken. Samples are sent to the food vendor for laboratory analysis.

After a police complaint by Reshma Begum's family, the food safety department of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the police tracked down the street vendor. Two persons running the stall have been detained and booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
