BCCI secretary Jay Shah is likely to become the next ICC chairman. According to several reports, he has emerged as the front-runner to replace Greg Barclay in the top post. The ICC needs a proposer and a seconder to secure his nomination. Reports indicate that England and Australia may support Shah's candidature, further strengthening his claim for the top post.
Now, a report in Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar says that if Jay Shah becomes ICC chairman, Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley could become BCCI secretary. Citing sources, the report says that Jaitley is the frontrunner among other candidates.
As per ICC rules, each of the 16 current ICC directors must submit their nominations by August 27 to be considered for the position of chairman.
Greg Barkley, who is eligible to serve a third two-year term, has announced his decision not to seek re-election, paving the way for Shah’s potential elevation.
If Shah succeeds, he will become the ICC's youngest chief at the age of 36. His election will make him the latest in a line of prominent Indians, following in the footsteps of Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N. Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar, who have held the prestigious post.
Currently, Jay Shah serves as a BCCI-appointed ICC Director and chairs the ICC's Finance and Commercial Affairs Sub-Committee, one of the most influential bodies within the ICC. His leadership in these roles, combined with strong support from international cricket boards, puts him in a favourable position to guide the ICC in the years to come.
Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had dismissed reports of rescheduling the ICC Champions Trophy to be held next year.
According to Geo News, ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in Pakistan, the PCB has directed the renovation of Karachi's National Stadium, Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium and Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium at a cost of Rs 12.8 billion.
