This incident caused a stir on social media. Bebhav and Swati have been with Kejriwal since their NGO days and their fallout has disappointed a large section within AAP. This is especially troubling as Kejriwal prepares for the election campaign. AAP did not react to the development.
Maliwal reached the police station at 10.30 am, left without registering an FIR.
Swati's allegation that she was beaten up at Kejriwal's behest has also angered many in the party.
Maliwal reportedly reached the Chief Minister's residence around 9-9.10 am. She wanted to meet the Chief Minister which was allegedly denied by her personal staff and security. An argument ensued and Maliwal sought help from the police. According to sources, the Delhi Police control room received a call from Maliwal at 9.24-25 am. “This is Swati Maliwal, MP, calling from 6 Flagstaff Road. Vibhav has attacked me on the instructions of the CM,” she said in the logged in call.
The PCR log said: “The caller is saying 'I am at CM's house now, I have not been beaten by my PA Bebhav Kumar'.” It was the SHO of Civil Lines who reached the Chief Minister's residence with his team. Maliwal repeated his complaint and was requested to come to the police station, police said. He was seen getting into an auto near the CM's residence around 9.50 am. She was reportedly on her way to another place but reached the police station around 10.30 am to lodge an FIR. However, she received a few calls there after which she stood up within minutes of her arrival and said she had to leave, police officials present said. Around 10.50 am, Maliwal boarded another auto and left the station saying she would return later.
A former video journalist with a magazine, Bibhu Kumar is one of Kejriwal's most trusted aides. He has also faced ED scrutiny in a case related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board, apart from a money laundering probe linked to the excise policy. In February, the ED had raided 12 locations, including those linked to Bibhav Kumar and AAP legislator ND Gupta. Last month, he had also questioned Bebhav in the excise policy case. Recently, the Directorate of Vigilance terminated Bibhav's services as Personal Secretary to the Chief Minister.
Maliwal, who was earlier listed as Delhi's star campaigner, did not find a place in the list of Punjab's star campaigners, prompting a backlash from the BJP. “Instead of ordering an inquiry, he has been removed from the list of star campaigners,” Delhi BJP president Virender Sachdeva said.
“Our view may differ from Maliwal's but it cannot be ignored that he has done things for women, including closing down illegal spas,” said another party worker, Tajinder Baga.
