New Delhi:

India has created a global conversation by emphasizing the government's intention to democratize artificial intelligence (AI) and make it accessible to all.
At the recently concluded 'Global India AI Mission' summit in the national capital, Global South countries recognized India's role in giving them a voice in the global AI forum and bridging the gap with the Global North. Appreciated it.

Over 2,000 global AI experts, policymakers, Artificial Intelligence (AI) practitioners, industry/startups and academia attended the summit, with over 10,000 AI enthusiasts attending hands-on sessions.

“The meetings on the key pillars of the India AI Mission demonstrated India's planned action and commitment to building a comprehensive and robust AI ecosystem in the country and leading global AI innovation,” the IT ministry said.

The Collaborative AI on Global Partnership (CAIGP) event brought together GPAI members, AI experts and industry representatives to identify approaches to bridging the global AI divide.

Members reached consensus on the future vision of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI).

“Overall, the summit led to in-depth deliberations and resulted in deep insights on various aspects of the implementation of the India AI Mission,” the ministry said.

The India AI Mission has been sanctioned with a cost of Rs 10,372 crore and of this Rs 2,000 crore will be used to develop indigenous AI-based solutions for the Indian startup ecosystem.

Support will also include solving issues such as compute, dataset and expertise, and access to GPU infrastructure will be available at subsidized rates.

Insights show that India has a competitive advantage in AI due to expertise, market and demand.

“For entrepreneurs, value creation and return on investment and higher costs will be key catalysts. The India AI mission can reduce the cost of innovation and local development,” the ministry noted.
