Indian men’s team coached by VVS Laxman leaves for China for Asian Games


VVS Laxman-coached Team India will get seven days of preparation time in China before the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side begins the Asian Games on September 28.

India’s second-string men’s team, coached by VVS Laxman, left for China. Ruturaj Gaikwad-Company will play Asian Games from 28th September. However, captain Gaikwad will join the team next week as he is part of India’s ODI squad for the first two ODIs against Australia starting on September 22. Rest of the Asian Games team members like Rahul Tripathi, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dubey, Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep have left for China for the Continental Games.

Let us tell you, Gaikwad-led India, being ranked high in the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings, will start their Asian Games campaign from the quarter-finals on October 28. The BCCI wants Gaikwad to get some game time before the Asian Games knockout matches and hence, the opener is part of the series against Australia.

VVS Laxman: Men’s team coached by Laxman is eyeing a win in the Asian Games

India will have seven days before playing their first quarter-final match. VVS Laxman is likely to organize intra-squad games. The second-tier team last participated in the Ireland T20 series for the Asian Games. Players like Rinku Singh, Shivam Dubey, Arshdeep and Ravi Bishnoi Gaikwad performed well. Apart from playing in that series, some of the above players also played in domestic T20 competitions in preparation for the Asian Games.

This will be the first time that Gaikwad will take charge of Team India. The CSK opener was placed ahead of the experienced Shikhar Dhawan due to his stellar performances in the IPL for CSK. Gaikwad has scored more than 400 runs consecutively in the last three editions of IPL. Also, Gaikwad comes across as a person of very calm nature.
