Gujarat Titans are out of the race for the IPL 2024 playoffs after their match against Kolkata Knight Riders was abandoned due to rain at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday. As a result, GT can reach a maximum of 13 points even if they win their last league match – this number will not be enough to take them into the top 4. KKR, on the other hand, now have 19 points from 13 matches and are guaranteed a top 2 finish. With GT out of the race, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants still remain in the competition and have one less team to worry about. Here's how this rain affected the IPL 2024 playoff race of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants –

Royal Challengers Bangalore

RCB is currently on a five-match winning streak and needs to win its last match against Chennai Super Kings. A win will take them to 14 points and put their playoff hopes on net run rate (NRR). The best-case scenario for RCB would be if LSG and SRH win one of their remaining two matches or both lose. A loss in both the games would mean that RCB can advance even if they beat CSK by a narrow margin. If SRH and LSG win one match each, NRR will come into play and RCB will have to register a big win over CSK to seal a place in the playoffs. If SRH loses both its matches, RCB can qualify with a big win over CSK as both will have 14 points.

Chennai Super Kings

A win over RCB will take CSK straight into the playoffs, but a defeat may not be the end of the road for the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side. If LSG loses both its remaining games, CSK will lead with 14 points. If LSG wins even one, CSK will still be the favorite due to better NRR. If LSG wins both its matches and SRH loses both its matches, then a loss to RCB for CSK will mean that the final playoff spot will be decided on the basis of net run rate between CSK, SRH and RCB.

Lucknow Super Giants

LSG will have to win both their remaining matches and this will take them to 16 points. If CSK beats RCB and SRH wins one of their remaining two matches, all 3 sides may finish with 16 points and LSG may not qualify due to their low NRR. If SRH wins both its matches and CSK loses to RCB, LSG will move to number 4. If SRH loses both their matches, then LSG can progress by winning their remaining matches, regardless of what happens in the clash between CSK and RCB. ,

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Win in the remaining two matches will guarantee a playoff spot for SRH. If they lose one of their matches and LSG wins their two games, both teams will have 16 points, but SRH will have the advantage due to better NRR. If SRH loses both its remaining matches and LSG wins both its games, then the Pat Cummins-led side will have to depend on the result of the game between RCB and CSK. If CSK wins the match then SRH will be out of the race. However, if CSK loses to RCB, the final playoff spot will be decided by NRR.
