- Recent crypto breaches affected the Polygon, Avalanche, and ZKSync Discord servers, causing financial losses.
- Token values plummeted, highlighting the need for user vigilance despite security measures.
The crypto community suffered a major blow last weekend, as major networks suffered a series of coordinated attacks.
Within just 48 hours of the breach at Polygon [MATIC] Discord channels The official Discord servers of layer-1 network Avalanche and layer-2 blockchain ZKsync were also targeted in separate attacks.
Avalanche's Discord compromised
On August 25, Avalanche's [AVAX] The official X account announced that its Discord server had been compromised, and warned users to avoid interacting with any links.
Screenshots shared by Avalanche Discord members showed that attackers had posted fraudulent links, promoted fake “distribution” schemes for Avalanche tokens and falsely promised free AVAX to holders and community members.
About an hour later, Avalanche’s community lead, Ben Vail, confirmed that the team had identified and resolved the issue, and efforts were underway to restore the servers to normal operations.
The event had a noticeable impact on Avalanche’s native token, AVAX, which dropped to $26.22 after enjoying a period of positive trading.
However, recent data shows that AVAX has seen a slight recovery, and is trading at $27, although it still saw a slight decline of 0.07% over the last 24 hours.
ZkSync's Discord also fell prey to this
As the crypto community was still processing the news of the Avalanche breach, reports emerged that ZkSync’s official Discord server had also been compromised just an hour later.
The hackers posted deceptive links promoting a fake “Round 2 Airdrop” scheme, falsely promising users free ZK tokens.
While ZkSync has yet to officially address the exploit on X, multiple team members have acknowledged the breach within the Discord server.
What happened to Polygon's Discord channel?
For those who don’t know, on August 24, Polygon’s Chief Information Security Officer Mudit Gupta confirmed the incident and warned users to avoid interacting with any links shared in the compromised channel until the issue is fully resolved.

This breach also impacted MATIC, resulting in a drop. In fact, as per the latest update, MATIC was down by over 5% in the last 24 hours, and was trading at $0.5224.
