Jim Palmer has Covid, causing him to miss Orioles broadcast

NEW YORK — Orioles broadcaster and Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer said he was absent from Mid-Atlantic Sports Network broadcasts because he has contracted COVID-19.

Palmer, 78, teamed with Kevin Brown to announce the Orioles' 4-2 loss to the Yankees on Tuesday night. MASN broadcaster Brett Hollander replaced Palmer to announce the game with Brown on Wednesday.

“Thank you for your kind thoughts,” Palmer Posted on XFormerly known as Twitter. “Thought I had a head cold but actually had COVID. My birthday gift to Brett Hollander on the eve of his 40th birthday. Coloring with Kevin Brown.”

This is the second time in the last two years that Palmer has missed an Orioles game due to COVID-19. Last season, Palmer tested positive for COVID-19 in August and missed multiple games.

“We wish the Hall of Famer a speedy recovery,” the Browns said in the fourth inning on Wednesday. “He'll be back with us soon.”

Palmer won three American League Cy Young Awards and three World Series titles with Baltimore. He holds the franchise record with 268 wins. He pitched for the 1983 team, the last Orioles team to win a World Series.
