JJ McCarthy on first minicamp: Nothing overwhelming, didn't feel like it was my first day

The Vikings opened their rookie minicamp on Friday, and all eyes were on first-round draft pick quarterback JJ McCarthy, who said afterward that he's already very comfortable in Minnesota's offense.

,It didn't feel like it was my first day, McCarthy said, via ESPN. “I have been considering crime for a long time. to be able to [go] To go out there and perform and execute, it's new, but it was nothing that was overwhelming or too much.”

McCarthy impressed coach Kevin O'Connell by showing up to the practice field early to prepare with teammates and watch the game himself.

“And not because anyone told him so,” O'Connell said. “But he is trying to have his best possible day today and then try to do the same tomorrow. This guy is a process-driven guy and understands that there's a long road ahead of him, that we're just trying to make incremental gains that will solidify over the long term as part of the way quarterback plays. So I'm really impressed with him so far and looking forward to another full day tomorrow.”

There are still four months before McCarthy will get a chance to show what he can do in a setting that really matters. But on the practice field, he is not looking like a first-day rookie.
