The central agency is trying to find out whether Anup Dutta helped prime accused Sanjay Roy to cover up the rape and murder of a 31-year-old female post-graduate trainee doctor inside Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. . RG Kar is investigating the rape and murder of former medical college and hospital principal Sandeep Ghosh along with financial irregularities.

Who is Anup Dutta?

Anup Dutta is considered to be a close associate of Dr. Sandeep Ghosh during his time in the medical college. She is under the CBI's radar after she was seen with Ghosh in pictures found on social media.

The ASI faces allegations that he helped prime accused Sanjay Rai gain access to police quarters and a police motorcycle, even though he is not entitled to any such privileges as a civilian police volunteer.

Anup Dutta is also a member of the Kolkata Police Welfare Committee, to which Sanjay Roy was associated and was tasked with visiting various hospitalized police personnel and their relatives.

Investigators believe access is the main reason Sanjay Roy entered the premises, but are trying to figure out how he could have entered the third-floor seminar hall, where the victim's body was found. Outsiders are not allowed to enter any ward of the hospital during such hours.

In the early days of the CBI investigation, scenes of Dutta running away from reporters went viral on social media.

Polygraph test

Meanwhile, the CBI completed the polygraph test of Sandeep Ghosh. He was also subjected to a layered sound analysis test. It detects the subject's reaction to the lie but does not identify it. The technology identified stress, cognitive processes, and emotional cues in various vocal features.

Polygraph tests can help detect inaccuracies in the statements of suspects and witnesses. By monitoring their psychological responses such as heart rate, breathing patterns, perspiration and blood pressure, investigators can determine discrepancies in their responses.

However, they are not admissible evidence at trial and can only be used to further a case.
