In a statement, the IMA said, “The Disciplinary Committee constituted by National President Dr RV Asokan has unanimously decided to suspend the membership of Dr Sandeep Ghosh, Vice President, IMA Calcutta Branch.”
A trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in the early hours of August 9 at the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. His body, bearing signs of severe injuries, was discovered by a doctor making rounds from inside the hall.

Why did IMA suspend the membership of Sandeep Ghosh?
The IMA said its national president met the victim's parents, who expressed complaints about Sandeep Ghosh's handling of the situation, “citing a lack of compassion and sensitivity in handling the issue properly.” giving according to your responsibility in your dealings with them”.
Additionally, the state branch of IMA Bengal and other medical associations demanded action, “citing the nature of discredit on your part to the profession”.

On August 24, the CBI filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Sandeep Ghosh following a direction from the Calcutta High Court. The probe was initiated after a single bench of the high court ordered the CBI to probe the alleged corruption in the medical college.

The Calcutta High Court has given the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report on the investigation on September 17.
As part of the investigation, the CBI conducted a polygraph test on Ghosh to gather more leads.
On August 25, the CBI's anti-corruption branch conducted searches at several locations linked to Sandeep Ghosh and his relatives in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate has also filed a money laundering case to probe alleged financial irregularities at a Kolkata hospital during Ghosh's principalship.
