Live: Remembering legendary KTLA entertainment anchor Sam Rubin

The KTLA 5 Morning News team is mourning the passing of Sam Rubin, one of its founding members and an icon in the entertainment world.

Sam's death at the age of 64 was announced on Friday, prompting tributes from colleagues and his friends and colleagues in Hollywood.

Sam joined the KTLA 5 Morning News in 1991 and made an immediate impact with his knowledge of film and television and infectious charm. His reports, interviews and feature segments were central to the morning broadcasts and hallmarks of KTLA's brand.

Sam's morning news co-hosts reflected on his impact during KTLA's live coverage Monday morning.

Fellow Morning News original cast member Eric Spielman: “We're going to take a look at the moments that made Sam Sam. A uniquely talented man who was our friend and made everyone here at KTLA feel like they were part of our family. And it's going to be a very difficult day,” Eric said as he began the broadcast.

Chris Schauble: “The phrase we say around here is, 'A rising tide lifts all boats.' “Sam made everyone better.”

Ginger Chan: “He really fought for other people. People who maybe didn't have a voice like him or didn't have the strength or power like him, but he was there for everybody, fighting for everybody.”

Henry DiCarlo: “He was our steering wheel in many ways. He led us. were broken. We are devastated and I wish I could say more of the thoughts I wanted to say but the best way we can honor Sam and honor his legacy is to tell those around us Tell him how much you loved him.
