Los Angeles Sparks rookie center Cameron Brink has a torn ACL in her left knee.
The Sparks announced the injury on Wednesday. Brink suffered a knee injury Tuesday night against the Connecticut Sun, and was further evaluated on Wednesday.
Brink was hurt while driving to the basket in the first quarter. Her knee twisted and she fell to the floor in pain. She had to get to her feet with the help of her teammates and was eventually lifted off the floor by a trainer.
The news is a huge blow to Brink, the Sparks, the WNBA and Team USA. Brink is one of the WNBA's brightest young stars, joining the Sparks as the No. 2 pick in the draft out of Stanford.
In 15 games, she has averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.1 steals per game. A month into her career, she is already one of the league's most popular players on the court and on social media.
Brink is a key member of a rookie class
Brink was recently selected as a member of Team USA's 3×3 basketball team for the upcoming Paris Olympics. Now Team USA must select a replacement before the Games begin on July 26.
