Major airlines have suspended flights to Israel following the Hamas attack.


Several major airlines have canceled flights at Ben Gurion International Airport after the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines announced that they had temporarily suspended flights to and from the international airport near Tel Aviv.

“Future operations at TLV will remain suspended until conditions allow them to resume,” United said in a statement to CBS News.

Both Delta and AA said in statements that operations to Israel were suspended until at least Sunday.

“We will continue to monitor the situation with safety and security in mind and adjust our operations as necessary,” American Airlines said.

Delta added that it is “working to return Delta people safely to the United States and will work with the U.S. government as needed to assist in the repatriation of U.S. citizens.”

Apart from this, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates, Ryanair and Aegean Airlines also canceled flights.

However, airport authorities did not close commercial air links with Israel’s other international airport and the tourist destination of Eilat on the Red Sea.

“Due to the current security situation in Tel Aviv, Lufthansa is canceling all flights to and from Tel Aviv until Monday, including one of the German carrier’s flights,” a spokesman for the German carrier told AFP. The airline is “monitoring the security situation in Israel,” the spokesman told AFP, adding.

Brussels Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, also canceled its flights to Tel Aviv.

Air France said it had suspended flights to Tel Aviv “until further notice”.

“Commercial measures are in place, allowing customers to postpone or cancel their journey free of charge,” an Air France spokesman said.

Air France-KLM Group’s low-cost carrier Transavia has announced that it is canceling all flights from Paris and Lyon to Tel Aviv until Monday. Spanish airline Iberia announced that its budget subsidiary Iberia Express is canceling its flights to Tel Aviv.

Italy’s flag carrier ITA Airways canceled its flight until Sunday morning “for the safety of passengers and crew”.
Spanish airline Iberia announced that its budget subsidiary Iberia Express is canceling its flights to Tel Aviv. In Warsaw, Polish carrier LOT said it had canceled its flights from the Polish capital on Saturday.
