‘Major parties need to shed arrogance’, say Indian bloc leaders as Congress leaves INLD rally

INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala, who is trying to join the India Alliance, met Congress president Mallikarjan Kharge in Delhi on Friday and invited him to the rally.

Abhay told The Print after the meeting that Kharge wished the event success and said he would discuss the issue of participation in the rally at the party level.

However, former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda has been against any alignment with the INLD and his will seems to prevail in the party.

Speaking to The Print after Abhay’s invitation to Kharge, Hooda had said that the INLD rally was aimed at a birthday, and anyone could go to such an event. He added that till now there was no question of INLD joining the Indian alliance.

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Shahid Siddiqui and Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad were also present at the rally, as was senior BJP leader Chaudhry Birendra Singh.

A Union Minister during the Modi government’s first term (2014 to 2019) at the Centre, Singh addressed the rally before leaders of the Indian Alliance and left the venue after his speech.

He told the gathering that he believed in paying homage to a great leader like Chaudhary Devi Lal, for which political parties should rise above their differences.

While this is not the first time that Singh has attended a rally on the occasion of Devi Lal’s birthday – he had also attended a rally held in his home district of Jund in 2021 – of late his BJP It has been reported to be angry.

Singh has, on more than one occasion, voiced the need to end the BJP’s alliance with the Jannaik Janata Party (JJP), which was split from the INLD and led by Chaudhary Devi Lal. Great-grandson and Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana Dushant Chautala. .

Singh’s wife contested against Dushant in the Ochana assembly seat in 2014 and 2019, while his son Brijender contested against him in the Hisar Lok Sabha seat.

INLD had earlier said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and SP leader Akhilesh Yadav had confirmed to attend the rally, but all failed to show up. ‘People ready to remove BJP-JJP government’

Despite the absence of any Congress leader, most speakers at the rally refrained from directly attacking the party and targeted the Modi government at the Center and the Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana.

Among those targeting the Congress was INLD chief and former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, who said he faced 10 years in jail “just for providing jobs to the unemployed youth, because Haryana The government that came after I ruled (1999 to 2005) sentenced him to 10 years in prison. A conspiracy against him,” referring to the teacher recruitment scandal for which he was convicted and imprisoned. .

Om Prakash was made Chief Minister by Hooda (2005 to 2014).

O’Brien launched his strongest attack on the Modi government when he termed the Women’s Reservation Bill as another. The sentence (fraud)”, saying that women are unlikely to get any quota in politics for the next 10 to 15 years.

He said his party leader, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was keen to attend the rally but had to miss it due to some unavoidable circumstances. “They have sent a message that TMC is with INLD and its leader Abhay Singh Chautala,” he said.

“Major parties have to shed their pride and keep their egos in their pockets if they are really interested in defeating the BJP,” he added.

The present NDA government at the center works only for the 10 rich people and not for the common man. He assured people that demonetisation would bring out black money, but nothing happened. They said that after the BJP came to power, people would get Rs 15 lakh in their bank accounts, but nothing happened,” said O’Brien.

Abdullah pointed out that if the opposition parties plan to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, they cannot do it alone.

We need people like Om Prakash Chautala, Sukhbir Badal and Congress to come on one platform. Instead of complaining against each other, they need to work together to defeat the BJP.

“If we have to win elections in Haryana, we have to stay with INLD and Om Prakash Chautala,” Tyagi said.

“But the problem is that we are ready to lose all 10 (Lok Sabha) seats in Haryana but not ready to share those seats with the opposition,” he added.

Badal talked about his father Prakash Singh Badal’s relationship with Chaudhary Devi Lal, and said that the Badal and Chautala families have always stood by each other.

Abhay Singh, who completed his state-wide ‘Privartan Pad Yatra’ on Monday, said INLD has always brought change in Haryana and will do so again in 2024.

“I have visited around 2,000 villages in Haryana during my tenure. Pilgrimage And met people. All of them are ready to oust the BJP-JJP government. INLD is going to form the next government and I will appeal to all other political parties to join us in this endeavour,” he said, adding that he would travel to the rest of the state’s villages from October.
