Sudheer Babu and actor-writer Harsh Vardhan have joined hands for a film titled Mama Macharendra. Sudheer Babu played multiple roles in this film, which released widely today. Let’s see how it is.
Story:
Parasuram (Sudheer Babu) kills his father and stepmother, who are the cause of his mother’s death. After completing his imprisonment, Parashurama came to know that his mother’s property was owned by his maternal uncle. Somehow, Parashurama won his uncle’s trust and married a girl whom his uncle considered his daughter.
Parashuram orders his assistant Ramadasu (Harshvardhan) to eliminate the family of his uncle’s son Prasad (Ajay), but Ramadasu fails to do so. Prasad has two sons, Durga (Sudheer Babu) and DJ (Sudheer Babu), who resemble Parasuram in appearance. The film is about how Parashuram’s life is affected by Prasad’s sons.
Plus points:
Sudhir Babu is the heart and soul of Maa Mashindra. He played all three characters with complete conviction. He has shown considerable variety in each role. Be it action, emotional or comedy scenes, Sudhir Babu has mastered them all. The hard work and dedication of the actor is clearly visible.
Harsh Vardhan impresses as an actor and complements Sudheer Babu well. The last few minutes of the film are handled neatly. The emotional scenes between father and daughter were very good. There are some moments in the second half that will bring good laughs. Isha Rebba and Mirnalini Ravi did what was expected of them.
Negative Points:
What could have otherwise been an entertaining ride was ruined by an underwhelming performance. The baby-swapping concept, which has been used extensively in recent Telugu films, was changed a bit here, and it actually had more scope for entertainment. However, the script’s potential was not fully utilised.
The main drawback is the first half of the film, which moves very slowly. ‘Act One’ i.e. character introduction and world-building is done very effectively. But after that, the film becomes boring with the light love track taking up most of the screen time. They are long, and some scenes in the first hour could have been shortened. Shakalaka Shankar’s track is tiresome. Some key arguments have been ignored, which is shocking.
The songs don’t make an impact and in fact, they take the film down. There are some moments of brilliance that show Harsh Vardhan is a sensible writer, but it would have been better if such impactful scenes had lasted longer. The audience needs to be careful to understand the proceedings as the film is based on a confusion comedy.
technical aspects:
Chaitan Bhardwaj’s songs are not good and his background score is good. PG Vinda’s cinematography is clean. The production values are good, but the VFX work looks poor. The editing is of low standard.
Maa Mashendra is a film that looks good on paper, but is not presented effectively on screen. Harsh Vardhan wrote dialogues for films like Manam and Guru in the past. Some of the dialogues of Mama Machhendra are really good and meaningful. The point he chose for Maa Mashindra was really good, but what went wrong was the presentation. He falters in the first hour and comes up with some good scenes in the second half.
Decision:
Overall, the premise of Mama Maschandra is interesting, but the execution is not up to the mark. The first half is unnecessarily made long with a boring love track. Sudheer Babu does well and there are some scenes in the film that work for him. As mentioned earlier, the audience must be highly focused to understand the proceedings, otherwise they may lose track of the film. Although there is some relief in the second half, the overall experience is disappointing.
