A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attacking a minor school girl with a sword in Modi Nagar area of the district, police said on Friday.
The girl, who was a class 9 student, sustained severe injuries in the attack, they said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Gyanprakash Roy said, “The minor girl was going for tuition on Thursday when she was assaulted by an assailant in Jagatpuri Colony. She suffered nine cuts in the attack and was hospitalized.” According to police, Showkin knew the girl and wanted her to stop attending that particular school.
The assailant was caught by passers-by and handed over to the police.
However, Showkin grabbed a policeman’s pistol while he was being taken to the hospital and opened fire.
“Shokin was being taken to the hospital for medical examination when he snatched a policeman’s pistol and opened fire. In the retaliatory firing, he received a bullet wound on his leg. He was recaptured by our team,” said the officer.
The accused was sent to jail on Friday.
