A 70-year-old woman in Gurgaon was allegedly murdered by her son when he returned home from a rehabilitation centre, police said on Monday.
According to the police, the incident took place on Saturday night and they received a report from Noorpur village a day later. When the team reached the spot, the body of the woman Roshni Devi was found.
Her daughter Sunita reported to the police that her brother, who had a drug addiction problem, allegedly killed their mother. Sunita said that she was admitted to the rehabilitation center till August 16.
On Sunday, the Bilaspur police team arrested the 37-year-old accused Ravinder. During police interrogation, it was found that the accused had asked his mother for money to buy drugs on Saturday night. On her refusal, enraged, he killed her mother by slitting her throat with a sharp weapon (a sickle),” an officer said.
Sunita filed a complaint that her mother, a widow, lived with Ravinder. Sunita admitted him to a rehabilitation center and after a few days brought him to her mother's house, after which she went back to her in-laws.
“On Sunday, around 1.30 am, Ravinder called me and said that he had killed our mother with the same sickle he had used to cut my hand, about a year ago. When I asked if he was lying. , Ravinder said that he had killed our mother last night and her body was lying in the yard,” he alleged in the complaint.
On reaching his mother's house, he found Devi's body lying in the yard covered in blood with injury marks. “The neighbors gathered on hearing my screams and informed the police,” he added.
An FIR under BNS 103(1) has been registered at Bilaspur Police Station. The police say that they have recovered the murder weapon.
