The Kuki Students Organisation, however, rejected Singh's claim, saying that the arrested man, Thangliankap, was a registered refugee from conflict-torn Myanmar, who had taken refuge in Manipur.
“Thangliankap did not enter Manipur illegally. Instead, it sought to identify Myanmar origin migrants/refugees entering/residing in Manipur due to unstable political situation. By filling out a proforma, following the proper process by registering with the relevant authorities in Myanmar, just like other people who have sought asylum in the state due to the current political unrest in Myanmar,” KSO's Information End. The KSO said Thangalian Kep is a resident of Koling, Khampat area in Myanmar.
Earlier in the day, the Manipur chief minister told television reporters in Imphal, “I would have talked about the involvement of foreign elements in the conflict and the supply of arms to the rebels in Manipur from the beginning. I have been. But I support the Assam Rifles to arrest the Myanmar rebels.” Singh said he would insist on an NIA probe into the matter.
