Market Wrap: Benchmark indices close with gains, with Nifty Bank among top gainers!
















On Friday, frontline indices ended the trading day on a higher note as the Sensex closed marginally higher by 0.23 per cent at 71,595.49, while the Nifty also closed at 21,782.50, up by 0.3 per cent.

Similarly, the broader market also witnessed a major decline as Nifty Midcap closed with a massive loss of 1.34 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap fell by 1.7 per cent.


As indicated by India VIX, the market volatility has declined by 3.22 per cent, indicating a reduction in market volatility.


Nifty Bank, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Financial Services and Nifty Pharma were among the top gainers, while Nifty Metal, Nifty Energy, Nifty IT and Nifty Auto were among the top losers.


Grasim, SBI and Apollo Hospitals were among the top gainers, while M&M, ONGC and Bharti Airtel were among the top losers in the Nifty 50.


About 702 shares were advancing while 1505 shares were falling, thus indicating pessimistic sentiment in the broader market.

Pre-market update at 7:55 am: On Thursday, Wall Street's primary indexes climbed, with the S&P 500 approaching the crucial 5,000-point threshold, as investors reacted to earnings updates, US jobs data and saw the US dollar gain ground.


The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 48.97 points, or 0.13 percent, to 38,726.33. Similarly, the S&P 500 rose 2.85 points, or 0.06 percent, to 4,997.91, while the Nasdaq Composite added 37.07 points, or 0.24 percent, to 15,793.72.


GIFT Nifty trends suggest a slow start for the benchmark indices with a fall of 52.50 points or 0.24 per cent. Nifty futures were seen trading near the level of 21,758.50.


Oil prices rose more than 3 percent on Thursday amid rising tensions in the Middle East after Israel rejected a ceasefire proposal from Hamas.


Brent futures rose US$2.42, or 3 percent, at US$81.36 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude jumped US$2.36, or 3.2 percent, at US$76.22. The surge pushed Brent above US$80 a barrel and pushed WTI above US$75 a barrel for the first time in February.


On February 08, 2024, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 4,933.78 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 5,512.32 crore.


The stocks that have been banned for trading in the F&O segment on February 09, 2024 are Ashokale, AuroPharma, Balramchain, Biocon, DeltaCorp, Hindcopper, IndiaSem, Industries, Nationalem, PNB, SAIL and UPL.
