Meet four new women SHOs of Ghaziabad Police who intend to defy 'male supremacy' | Delhi News

In an unusual move, the Uttar Pradesh Police has deputed four women sub-inspectors as Station House Officers (SHOs) of various police stations in Ghaziabad in a bid to break the “male-dominated” force. .

“A police station is not like a bank. There is no fixed place and no fixed working hours,” Ghaziabad Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra told The Indian Express. There are some institutional biases.”

Mishra said that there are 4200 policemen in Ghaziabad. “There are 58 women sub-inspectors and 600 women constables and head constables. Women always have to prove themselves in every role but men are limited by their egos… They feel that because they are men, they have to prove themselves. So there is no need to cover such a long distance.

“Since women (police) officers do not get enough opportunities (in leadership roles), they start avoiding responsibilities. Most of them (women officers) are confined to administrative tasks in police offices and headquarters. said Mishra. But, if women are given a chance (on the field), they will never fail. This is from my own experience. Each time, they have exceeded my expectations.”

“We will try to solve the crime related cases at our level first. We will also provide women counseling here. Newari does not have a pink booth so I have more responsibility,” said SH. “I was hopeful but I did not expect to be posted as SHO,” she added.

Link Road Police Station SHO Preeti Singh

“Cases of sexual abuse against children are my first priority and I will ensure that the charge sheet is filed within seven days,” she said.
