Swathi Reddy and Naveen Chandra play the lead roles in the long-delayed film, Month of Madhu, which finally hit the theaters today. Check out our review to see what this film brings.
Story:
After two decades of marriage, Lekha (Swathi Reddy) decides to separate from her husband Madhusudan Rao (Naveen Chandra). Simultaneously, an NRI teenager named Madhumita (Shreya Neville) reaches Vizag to attend her cousin’s wedding. She accidentally meets Madhusudan and thinks about his personal life. What will happen next? Does she repair their relationship or tear it apart further? Why does Lekha want to separate from Madhu? After all, what option does accounting choose? There are answers to these questions in the film.
Plus points:
Swathi Reddy, known for her good acting skills, has once again given an exceptional performance and has portrayed the two different phases of her life – a teenager and a mature woman – effortlessly. She skillfully conveys the deep emotional difference between these two stages.
Naveen Chandra is excellent in his role as a man struggling with anger issues and gender beliefs. His portrayal of a troubled drinking man matches real-life situations.
Shreya Neville, who plays Madhumita, serves as a vital element in the film, fitting in seamlessly as an NRI free from societal norms and living life on her own terms. The rest of the actors perform satisfactorily in their respective roles.
Negative Points:
The film’s primary shortcoming lies in its thin story, which stretches over a long 2 hours and 20 minutes. Weak writing and irregular screenplay reduces the impact of the lead actors’ acting.
While a gradual build-up is acceptable in the initial stages, maintaining the same sluggish pace in the second half becomes a significant hurdle, as seen in the month of Madhu.
Writer-director Srikanth Nagothy’s presentation lacks depth, as a result of which the story struggles to engage the audience effectively.
Characters like Manjula Ghattamaneni and Raja Chembolu have minimal impact on the film. The comedy scenes of Harsha Chemudu could have been written better. The film’s songs quickly fade from our memory and its score fails to leave any lasting impact.
technical aspects:
Srikanth Nagothy, playing the role of both writer and director, fails to craft a compelling narrative with catchy dialogues.
Achu Rajamani’s score, while useful, failed to leave a lasting impression. Rajeev Dharawat’s cinematography offers sporadic moments of satisfaction, but a tighter editing by Ravikant Perupu could have streamlined the runtime.
Decision:
Overall, despite the commendable performances of Swathi and Naveen Chandra, Month of Madhu offers a dull and boring cinematic experience. The film’s dull screenplay, underdeveloped story and inclusion of unnecessary scenes in both the parts makes it weak. It might be a wise choice to consider other movie options for your weekend entertainment.
