Newly-elected Gurgaon MP and Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh on Tuesday pulled officials from various departments over issues related to waste disposal in the city in a meeting.
Ahead of the recent Lok Sabha elections, residents had protested and called for a boycott citing the garbage crisis in Gurgaon. Rao Inderjit Singh won the seat by a margin of over 75,000 votes, compared to a comfortable majority of 3.86 lakh votes last time.
Inderjit Singh reviewed various development projects, sanitation arrangements and preparations for the monsoon season. He also sought reports from Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) CEO Srinivas, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Narhari Singh Bangar and Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav on ongoing development projects in Gurgaon.
Inderjit Singh said that Gurgaon is a global city and it is very important to ensure a clean environment for the urban population. He added that the officials should make serious efforts to solve the garbage and water problems.
The MP expressed dissatisfaction over the cleanliness of the drains, saying that garbage should be collected immediately from the busiest areas of the city and a plan to improve the sanitation and sewage system in the extended areas should be expedited. should be implemented. He directed the GMDA officials to remove the permanent or temporary obstructions affecting the drainage system and to take strict action against those who throw garbage in the drains.
The MP also sought a report on the GMDA's plan to discharge treated sewage into Damdama Lake and the progress of the sports complex to be built in Wazirabad.
