MS Dhoni called Indian star 'I am the idiot' during IPL, former CSK teammate said 'I have heard a lot of abuses'

MS Dhoni is an enigma in Indian cricket. The most successful Indian captain of all time, Dhoni is a beloved figure in the cricketing fraternity as well. But his bond with Chennai is more special than any other place. He is not only the former captain of Chennai Super Kings but is the city's most loved son. He led the team to five IPL titles before handing over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Mohit Sharma played with MS Dhoni for a long time in CSK and shared some interesting anecdotes about the former Indian captain.

,He gets very angry, we have hurled abuses at him a lot (He gets angry too, we have heard a lot of abuses from him). But he always says, what happens on the field stays there. Later, he will explain to you but will never get angry at you. I have heard a lot from him. Being a fast bowler, you lose focus. Pay attention to what is happening behind you. If he waves at you and you are standing facing the other end. If someone from the public says something and you react. Because of these kind of things, I have faced a lot of criticism from him,” Mohit said on the '2 Sluggers' podcast.

“Deepak Chahar has also been abused a lot. There is a story about him as well. In 2019 Deepak was playing and I was not playing. The match was in Chennai and everyone was sweating. He bowled a knuckle ball which I think was a full toss or something, which went for a four or a six. Dhoni bhai told him not to bowl that ball again. He said, 'Ok Mahi bhai'. After bowling the next 2-3 balls he again bowled a knuckle ball. He again bowled a knuckle ball,” Mohit recalled.

“Mahi bhai came up to him, put his hand on Deepak's shoulder, said a few words to him and went back. Obviously we didn't know. So when the match was over, we asked what happened? They said, 'Do you know what he said? He said some nice things (probably abuses), and then he said “You're not the idiot, I'm the idiot” (You are not a fool, I am a fool). So this is a story that we always remember. Now it is Deepak's turn and he will also be a part of that queue. Also, Dhoni bhai also loves Chahar equally.”

There is still no clarity on whether MS Dhoni will play in IPL 2025 or not.
