In a hit-and-run case on Sunday, a speeding luxury BMW car hit a two-wheeler couple in Mumbai's Worli, dragging the woman for 100 meters and injuring her husband.

According to Mumbai Police, the couple, who hailed from Koliwada area of ​​Worli, were returning home after fetching fish from Sassoon Dock, The Indian Express reported. Around 5.30 am near Atria Mall, a speeding BMW car rammed their two wheels from behind. The husband lost his balance and the car overturned and the couple climbed onto the bonnet of the car.

The husband managed to jump from the moving vehicle, but his wife Kaveri Nakawa could not as she was carrying a heavy load. Naqua was dragged for 100 meters, causing serious injuries. Both were taken to Nair Hospital for treatment, but the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Worli police has seized the BMW car and arrested the accused driver who was absconding since the accident. Senior police officials have reportedly reached Worli, and a case is expected to be registered soon.

The owner of the car is said to be Rajesh Shah, a local Shiv Sena (Shinde) leader in Palghar. The driver and Rajesh Shah's son are suspected to be inside the car at the time of the accident.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray later visited the Worli police station and met the woman's husband. Posting on social media platform X, he said that Mumbai's traffic discipline and safety must be brought back.

“The incident is sad and unfortunate. I have spoken to the police, there will be no intervention in this matter and strict action will be taken as per law. Police will not protect anyone. I want to make this clear. That everyone is the same before the law, whether he is a Shiv Sena worker, the law will take its course, our government's stand is that everyone should get equal justice.” He made this statement shortly after Aditya Thackeray visited the Worli police station.

The incident comes in the backdrop of a sensational hit-and-run case in Pune involving a 17-year-old minor, who rammed a motorcycle and killed a young couple. The accident took place on May 19 when the youth was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The Pune police is expected to approach the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court's decision to grant bail to the accused.
