Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed an election rally in West Bengal's Barrackpore on Sunday, May 12. Targeting the ruling Trinamool Congress in Bengal, Modi gave five guarantees to the state.

“I am giving five guarantees to Bengal. As long as I am here, there will be no reservation on the basis of religion. No one will be able to stop the reservations of SC, ST or OBC. No one will be able to stop you from performing Ram Naomi Pooja. No one will be able to reverse the Supreme Court verdict on the Ram temple in Ayodhya and no one will be able to scrap the CAA,” Modi said.

Modi said that it has become difficult for the common man to follow his faith in Bengal. “TMC threatens people when they mention the name of Shri Ram. Jai Shri Ram! Modi said that the land of West Bengal, especially Barrackpore, has written history. This land played an important role in independence. But Mamata Banerjee-led TMC has made it a hub for scams.

“There was a time when scientific inventions were made in Bengal, but under the TMC rule, the entire state has a cottage industry of making bombs. There was a time when Bengal protested against illegal immigrants, but today the TMC In protection of, illegal immigrants are developing,” Modi alleged.

“The TMC-Congress-INDI alliance in Bengal is exposed to the politics of appeasement. They call for vote jihad against Modi. A TMC MLA has said that they will drown Hindus in the Bhagirathi river. Earlier, TMC MLA Humayun Kabir made a controversial comment during an election rally in Murshidabad and said that Hindus will be drowned in Bhagirathi river within two hours or else they will quit politics.

Modi said the development of eastern Indian states was neglected by the Congress party which ruled the country for decades.

“After independence, members of the Congress party family ruled the country for decades. They neglected the development of the states of eastern India. Be it West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, or Odisha, the Congress ruled these states. From natural resources to the blue economy, these states have great potential for economic growth in all sectors.

He further said that 'Modi' will make Eastern India the growth engine of Vakisht Bharat.

“Today, we are building a network of roads, railways and waterways in the eastern states of India…dedicated freight corridors have boosted industrialization in the region. West Bengal and surrounding areas will grow in the coming years. States will be dedicated to advancing,” he said.

Modi claimed that in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party will do better in Bengal than in 2019 when it won 18 seats. “West Bengal is an important state for us. The Congress ruled for 50 years, but despite the states being able, the people of East India got only poverty. These states have mineral resources, fertile land. Tourism in these states I have decided to make these states an engine of growth for India,” the PM said at the rally.

Earlier, the PM also conducted a road show in Barrackpore.

In the fourth phase of voting on May 13, voting will be held for the eight Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal. These constituencies include Bahrampur, Krishnanagar, Ranaghat, Burdhmanpurba, Burdwan-Durgapur, Asansol, Bolpur and Birbhum.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC won 34 seats in the state, while the BJP had to settle for 2 seats. CPI(M) won 2 seats, while Congress won 4 seats.
