NASA discovers exoplanet made of diamonds and 9 times larger than Earth

There are thousands of celestial bodies in space. Some have been discovered, while others are yet to be discovered. We are often amazed when various space agencies around the world tell us about undiscovered planets and stars. One such discovery has been disclosed by the American space agency NASA. In a recent development, NASA reportedly discovered an exoplanet using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). It is said that this planet is made of diamond-like carbon. The planet is about twice as wide as Earth and about 9 times as massive as Earth. According to the information shared by NASA, this exoplanet is known as 55 Cancri e. The distance between the planet and our solar system is about 41 light years. Astronomers reported that the planet is covered with hot lava. This is because the planet's primary atmosphere is destroyed by radiation from its star. It is said that diamonds are present in huge quantities on this planet. Scientists have classified it as a super-Earth because it is much larger than Earth but lighter than planets like Neptune and Uranus.

Scientists said that the exoplanet is very dense. Due to its dense nature, astronomers believe the planet is composed mostly of carbon that has been compressed into diamonds. The exoplanet is only 1.4 million miles (2.3 million kilometers) from its Sun-like star, 55 Cancri A, which is about 0.01544 times the distance between Earth and the Sun. Because of this short distance, 55 Cancri E orbits around 55 Cancri A once every 17 Earth hours. The planet's temperature is about 4,400 degrees Fahrenheit (about 2,400 degrees Celsius).

Renyu Hu, a member of the research team and a researcher at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), said in an interview: “We have measured thermal emissions from this rocky planet, and the measurements indicate that the planet has a sufficient atmosphere. This atmosphere “This is likely supported by the gas that is emitted from the rocky interior of 55 Cancri e, and according to our research, this is the first measurement of a secondary atmosphere on a rocky exoplanet.”
