NASA postpones launch of Crew-9 mission to Saturday due to Tropical Storm Helene

NASA astronaut Nick Hague, Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov will be launched on Dragon spacecraft

NASA said on Tuesday that the launch of its Crew-9 mission with SpaceX has been postponed until September 28 due to Tropical Storm Helene.

SpaceX's upcoming Crew Dragon mission, a routine flight called Crew-9, is expected to send a NASA astronaut and a Russian cosmonaut to the International Space Station.

Although Helene is passing through the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to impact northwestern Florida, it is large enough to cause strong winds and heavy rainfall in the Cape Canaveral area, where the mission is expected to launch from.

The Crew-9 mission was originally scheduled to launch no earlier than Aug. 18 but was delayed by a month to analyze problems with Boeing's Starliner spacecraft, which is still docked at the station.

NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov will blast off to the ISS aboard the Dragon spacecraft, which will be the ninth crew rotation mission with SpaceX under the space agency's Commercial Crew Program.
