A Party in the Neighborhood, an Open Door: New Details on 'Money Heist' in Delhi

It is suspected that 4-5 people were behind the Delhi robbery.

New Delhi:

Sources said on Tuesday that a party in the neighborhood could have easily given thieves access to a Delhi jewelery shop behind the Rs 25 crore heist. The robbery, said to be one of Delhi’s biggest heists in recent history, took place at Umrao Singh Jewelers in Bhogal area on Sunday night.

According to sources, the thieves entered the shop from the adjacent house, the gate of which is usually closed at night. However, on Sunday night, the gate was not closed as some tenants on the first floor were said to be celebrating.

Taking advantage of the open gate, the robbers went to the roof of the house and then jumped onto the roof of the jewelery shop which has no road behind it.

To pull off the heist, the thieves disconnected the CCTV camera installed in the shop and punched a hole in the locker where the jewelery was kept. They also fled with the jewelery displayed in the shop.

The owner, who had locked the store on Sunday evening, discovered the robbery when he opened the showroom on Tuesday morning, as his shop was closed on Monday.

It is suspected that 4-5 people were behind the robbery.

It is also suspected that the employee of the jewelery shop, who had been absent from work for the past 15 days, may also be involved in the robbery.
