Nine Indian track and field athletes booked tickets for Paris Olympics through rankings

Nine more Indian track and field athletes have secured their places for the 2024 Paris Olympics after World Athletics published the final ranking list after the qualification period ended on June 30, 2024.

Apart from the nine athletes who qualified in their respective events, steeplechaser Parul Chaudhary became the only Indian to qualify for two events after securing a place in the women's 5000m race.

Earlier at the 2023 World Championships, Parul qualified in the 3000m steeplechase by breaching the Olympic qualification mark.

Asian champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor secured his quota in the men's shot put event, while Sarvesh Anil Kushare confirmed his place in the men's high jump event.

Praveen Chitravel and Abdullah Abubakar booked their places in the men's triple jump while Asian Games gold medallist Annu Rani booked her place in the women's javelin throw event.

Star hurdler Jyoti Yaraji will become the first Indian woman to compete in the 100m hurdles at the Olympics while national record holder shot putter Abha Khatua has booked her place in the women's shot put event.

DP Manu qualified as the third Indian athlete in the men's javelin throw event after Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena booked their spots at the Asian Games last year. However, Manu's absence from the recently concluded Inter-State Athletics Championships due to alleged doping charges has brought his status under question.

Similarly, in men's long jump, Jaswin Aldrin is ranked 33rd and is just one place away from qualification but after the withdrawal of Murali Sreeshankar, there is a strong possibility that Jaswin will secure his place for the Paris Olympics.
