- This is the first major facelift for the Magnite since its launch in 2020
- The powertrain is expected to remain unchanged
The first teaser of the updated Nissan Magnite has surfaced ahead of the car's launch on October 4. This is the first major update for Nissan's compact SUV and is expected to get a new face, light package and a new design for the alloy wheels. At the top end, the Magnite was already a fairly loaded car, so we expect some minor upgrades to the feature list and cabin.
What is not expected to change is the two powertrain options. The lower-spec variants will get a 1.0-litre NA petrol engine that can be had with a five-speed MT or a five-speed AMT. The more powerful engine is Nissan's 1.0-litre turbo-petrol that can be had with a six-speed MT or a CVT. It shares these powertrains with the Renault Kiger.
This updated Magnite is a part of Nissan India's revival plan, under which it will launch five new models for the market in the next few years. The X-Trail is the first from the list, while the updated Magnite is in second place. This will be followed by a two-row C-SUV, a three-row SUV and finally a small EV, which we suspect will be the electric Magnite.
Nissan has not launched any new car in the last three years and will rely heavily on the Magnite to make a comeback in the sub-four compact SUV game. Here, it will compete with cars like Maruti Brezza, Renault Kiger, Toyota Taser, Maruti Fronx, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV 3XO.
