Over the past few years, as time went on, with no word from Nintendo or Retro Studios about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, many fans began asking the same question: will it skip the Switch and launch on the 'Switch 2'?
Finally, the game's final revival happened during the latest Nintendo Direct after The firm has finally acknowledged the Switch's successor, confirming it will be revealed next fiscal year. Many have come to the conclusion that if the Prime 4 doesn't make it to the showcase, chances are it's not heading to the Switch.
Alas, there was, and it looks beautiful. But what did it look like Very Good for Switch? Some people think so, but IGN has a positive comment from Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is, at least based on the evidence so far, a Switch game:
“It looks awesome and has some cool effects that we took a closer look at, but ultimately, all evidence points to this game running on the original Switch. The internal rendering resolution is clocked at 900p, which is the same as Metroid Prime Remastered.
“And as good as it is, it has some aliasing issues and even some very slight frame-rate drops. Everything about the visual make-up is in line with really well-made Switch games, where Retro has an excellent track record. I can imagine the development studio is really happy that people are making engagements with Switch 2, take note.”
So there you have it. While we had no doubt in our minds that this game would be running on the Switch (or at least comparable PC hardware), we thought we'd put everyone's minds at ease once and for all.
Now, we're not going to completely rule out the possibility that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be a cross-gen release just like Zelda: Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild; after all, the timing will match up pretty well. But we think it's clear that, for now, this is solely a Switch game.
