Northern California fire is now state's largest, engulfing 19,000 acres – NBC Bay Area


The wildfire burning in Northern California continued to grow Thursday and is now the largest active fire in California, according to Cal Fire.

The Sites Fire in Colusa County had burned more than 19,000 acres as of Thursday morning and was only 15% contained, Cal Fire said.

Cal Fire said firefighters continued to work on the western and eastern sides of the fire through Thursday night, but the northern end of the fire remained active.

There were no reports of injuries, and the fire did not damage any structures.

The following evacuation orders are still in effect: Leesville to Lodoga Road south to Leesville Road; Leesville to Huffmaster Road; Huffmaster Road to Maxwell Sites Road; Leesville Road to Antelope Valley Ranch and Antelope Valley Ranch north; and Sites to Lodoga Road has been completely closed.

Cal Fire said evacuation warnings were issued for the areas from Leesville Road south to Bear Valley Road to Highway 20 and from Highway 20 east to Leesville Road.

An evacuation shelter is open at the Colusa Veterans Hall, located at 108 E Main Street in Colusa.
