OpenAI announces May 13 event to launch something magical, Sam Altman confirms it's not a Google Search alternative – Technology News

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has dismissed reports that he was preparing to launch a Google Search alternative in the coming days. Barely hours before Google's I/O 2024 developer conference begins, OpenAI has an event scheduled for May 13, but it won't feature the launch of next-generation GPT-5. Instead, OpenAI will announce new “ChatGPT and GPT-4” updates at its May 13 event.

Altman described the new update as magical in a post published on X, formerly known as Twitter. There has been speculation that OpenAI is secretly building a Google search engine alternative, and it remains to be seen how it is able to give Google a run for its money. On generative AI, it was expected that the OpenAI search engine could at least be competitive. Search is Google's biggest money making business.

OpenAI May 13 ChatGPT Event Details

OpenAI has confirmed that it will host a live stream on May 13 to unveil “some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates” in a post on Xpress. “Not GPT-5, not a search engine, but we're hard at work.” There are some new things we think people will love! Feels like magic to me. On Monday at 10 a.m. PT, Sam Altman posted from his X account.

The OpenAI website is teasing “Spring Updates” with demos of new functionality at the time of writing.

“We'll be live streaming at on Monday, May 13 at 10am PT to demo some ChatGPT and GPT-4 updates,” OpenAI said.

The introduction of the new functions is aimed at competing more successfully with Alphabet Inc's Google and Perplexity, Bloomberg reported earlier this week.

With the help of some new features, users can ask questions and get answers from ChatGPT which pulls information from the internet and provides quotes. Experts suggest that the new updates can provide you with visual as well as written answers where required. More information is awaited.
