A GDA official said, “GDA has been mandated to act as an interface with the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC) to prepare the feasibility report. HRIDC has paid about Rs 10 lakh in advance. have been paid, and a report is expected in six months.
In May, Meerut Divisional Commissioner Selva Kumari held a meeting with key stakeholders, including NCR Planning Cell, UPSIDA, UPSRTC, and GDA, to take the project forward.
The orbital rail will cover 270 km and 90 km will pass through UP. Unlike access-controlled Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways, Orbital Rail will have stations every 5 km, covering areas of UP and Haryana bypassed by expressways.
The project is crucial if the region is to emerge as a logistics hub, officials said.
