Over 30 women rescued from burning pygmy guests in Delhi, fire brought under control

A fire broke out in a guest house in North Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar today.

New Delhi:

More than 35 women were rescued by a paying guest after a building caught fire in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar. Fire department officials said they were looking to see if anyone was trapped.

The fire department said they received a call at 7.45 a.m. about a fire at Signature Apartment, following which they dispatched 20 fire trucks to douse the fire.

The fire has been completely extinguished. Officials said there were about 35 women and all are safe.

The fire appears to have started from an electrical meter board near the stairs and spread to the upper floors of the three-storey building with a kitchen on the roof.

Earlier, visuals from the site showed smoke and flames coming from the ground floor.

Mukherjee Nagar is 3.5 km from Delhi University and is the hub of guest accommodation and coaching centres.
