Painting bought for $4 at a thrift store sells for $191,000 at auction trend


What was initially a simple painting purchased for $4 at a thrift store in New Hampshire turned out to be a valuable long-lost work by prominent painter N.C. Wyeth, eventually fetching an impressive $1,91,000 (about Rs. 1.5 crore) at an auction . ,

According to CBS News, the artwork was found by a woman in 2017 among a pile of frames at a Savers store in Manchester. What he didn’t know, however, was that his eyes had fallen on a painting by the Needham-born artist, N.C. Distress.

The painting, titled Ramona, is one of a set of four commissioned by Little, Brown and Company for the 1939 edition of Helen Hunt Jackson’s novel ‘Ramona’. Bonhams auction house shared about this painting on Instagram. He wrote, “This long-lost NC Wyeth is coming to auction at Bonhams Skinner on September 19. Purchased for $4 at a thrift store in 2017, it was later discovered that the painting is by the renowned American artist.”
