Pakistan cricket fraternity salutes Rohit Sharma after India's T20 World Cup win; Akhtar says, 'He was crying on the field'


Legendary Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar had already said that Rohit Sharma & Co will win the title in the ICC World Cup final between Team India and South Africa. From Rawalpindi Express to Shahid Afridi, several big names from the Pakistan cricket fraternity congratulated Team India after they defeated Aiden Markram's South Africa in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday.

Virat Kohli gave his best performance in the last over to beat the Proteas by seven runs in the final over at Kensington Oval to end his long wait for an ICC title. Jasprit Bumrah led India to a brilliant comeback while Hardik Pandya made his comeback by bowling a match-winning over in the final. After India's historic win in the World Cup final, legendary Pakistani fast bowler Akhtar had special praise for Indian captain Rohit.

'Rohit Sharma was crying on the ground, this says it all'

The legendary Pakistani bowler also recalled Rohit's emotional moment in his recent post on Twitter. Akhtar said, “Rohit Sharma has won. Emotions are high, India deserved the win. Many congratulations to them. They lost in Ahmedabad (ODI World Cup final). I said even then that India deserved the win. And this time they won. Rohit Sharma fell on the field crying, it says it all. What this win means to them.”

Former Pakistan captain Afridi also praised Rohit, who he believes has been a great captain for the team. “Congratulations to India on a memorable win. @ImRo45 fully deserves it, he has been a great captain. @imVkohli is a big match player as always and Bumrah is undoubtedly the best bowler in the world right now. @OfficialProteas were unfortunate, the team that had a great season in the tournament was left out,” Afridi said.

Rohit to retire from T20 International cricket after World Cup, will join Kohli

It was the end of an era as India batsmen Kohli and Rohit announced their T20I retirement after the ICC World Cup final. For over a decade, Rohit and Kohli carried the dreams of a cricket-mad nation and played a key role in India's second World Cup title triumph. Team India remained the only undefeated team in the 2024 edition of the ICC World T20. Kohli played a brilliant innings of 76 runs to help India beat South Africa in the final.
