Pakistan’s World Cup team will be announced on Friday after the marathon meeting.

The fate of Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Sarfaraz Ahmed will be decided on Friday as Pakistan announces its World Cup squad at 11:45 am IST.

The impasse is over. The Pakistan Cricket Board is all set to announce the squad for the World Cup 2023 in Lahore on Friday at 11:45 am. The announcement of the Pakistan squad for the World Cup was delayed due to injuries to both Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah during the Asia Cup. Furthermore, Pakistan’s failure in continental tournaments also raised question marks over the team’s preparations. PCB chief Zaka Ashraf met Babar Azam, chief selector Inzamam Ul-Haq as well as the coaches and technical committee on Wednesday and Thursday. Now, Shaft is ready to release.

PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf met the national coaching staff headed by Mickey Arthur, captain Babar Azam, vice-captain Shadab Khan, technical committee members Mohammad Hafeez and Misbah Ul Haq. The meeting was a review of the Asia Cup as Pakistan was eliminated after a close defeat to Sri Lanka.

Chief selector Inzamam Ul-Haq did not attend the meeting due to a medical emergency. But later he met Ashraf and gave his input.

PCB’s Director of Medical and Sports Science Dr. Sohail Saleem also attended the meeting to give an update on the injury status of Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah.

Franchise cricket held responsible for Asia Cup failure

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board has rejected the players’ demand to be allowed to play franchise cricket. In its meeting, PCB has blamed franchise cricket for the failure of Asia Cup. It should be noted that the PCB and the players are discussing the central contract clause. The PCB has agreed to only two NOCs for Grade A players like Babar Azam and Naseem Shah. While players have demanded more flexibility, blaming franchise cricket in the review meeting, this is going to be a major point of contention.

There are two weeks left for the World Cup to start and Pakistani players are currently playing without any central contract.

“The discussion revealed that the previous management had allowed too many players to play league cricket. Due to this he became tired in front of his national duty. But going forward we have agreed to take a proactive approach to deal with the players’ workload and prioritize national duty.” Zaka Ashraf said in a statement.

Pakistan out of World Cup squad on Friday after marathon meeting, Naseem Shah still doubtful, Haris Rauf and Sarfaraz Ahmed return
Naseem Shah suffered a shoulder injury during the Asia Cup.

Pakistan team for world cup

After the review meeting is over, the focus will be on Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah and Sarfaraz Ahmed. There is a good news for Rauf’s fans. The leading Pakistani fast bowler suffered an injury against India in the Asia Cup. However, he has returned to practice again.

However, Naseem Shah remains doubtful due to a shoulder injury. With the team deadline of September 28, it is unlikely that Pakistan will have a fully fit Naseem Shah back. So, as of now, he is likely to miss either the entire World Cup or parts of it.

Meanwhile, PCB has asked Sarfaraz Ahmed not to play in the domestic match. Although he was not in the Asia Cup squad, there are chances that Pakistan will select him for the World Cup.

Pakistan will start its campaign against Netherlands on 6 October in Hyderabad.
